Domaine Arlaud in Morey-Saint-Denis

In the heart of the Côte de Nuits, where the hillsides tell the story of centuries past, the estate cultivates far more than vines — it cultivates a vision.

A deep conviction guides every choice: true excellence can only emerge from absolute respect for both the land and the people who work it.

In 1998, a defining decision shaped the estate’s identity: the abandonment of herbicides. The future required a return to essentials — preserving soil life, protecting groundwater purity, and maintaining natural balance. Vineyard treatments were therefore reconsidered and entirely reimagined.

In 2004, the entire 15 hectares transitioned to organic farming, permanently eliminating pesticides and synthetic products and fertilizers. Official certification was obtained in 2010 with the AB label.

In 2009, Cyprien Arlaud went further, initiating conversion to biodynamic viticulture. Herbal infusions, composts, natural preparations — a sensitive agriculture connected to the rhythms of earth and sky.

In 2014, the estate became the first in Morey-Saint-Denis to receive biodynamic certification with the Biodyvin label.

On these noble lands, every gesture matters. To preserve the soils from heavy machinery, the Grand Crus and Premier Crus — five hectares in total — have been plowed by horse since 2004. The estate carefully nurtures soil structure and its vibrant microbial life.
All Premier Cru and Grand Cru vines are hand-braided, with deep respect for the plant. In this way, the vine fully expresses its vitality, concentrating the taste of place within its grapes.

The pursuit of integrity continues in the winery. Designed in 2003, it operates by gravity to preserve the integrity of the berries, from meticulous sorting to the press. No crushing, hand-sorted harvests, partially whole-cluster depending on the appellation. Fermentations begin spontaneously, closely monitored, with minimal punch-downs.

Aging is carried out without oenological additives. Sulfite use is extremely limited and kept to a minimum. Red wines are bottled by gravity, without fining or filtration.
Corks are rigorously selected and hand-applied to every Grand Cru bottle. Even the moon guides bottling dates, chosen according to lunar cycles to preserve clarity and aromatic depth.

From Morey-Saint-Denis, the estate patiently cultivates 17 hectares, including four exceptional Grand Crus: Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Charmes-Chambertin, and Bonnes Mares.

These are precise, vibrant, sincere wines that express a philosophy rooted in respect, high standards, and an ever-evolving quest for excellence. Each vintage is a promise: to craft wines that elevate the spirit, inspire winegrowers, and move discerning enthusiasts.
